When Josef Frank started the collaboration with Svenskt Tenn’s founder Estrid Ericson in 1934, he was already established as one of the leading architects and designers. He founded his company Haus & Garten in Vienna and designed residential complexes and villas with, what was perceived, headstrong interiors.

Josef Frank was both appreciated and debated a committed modernist who did not follow the rule book. He was convinced that ""every human needs a certain amount of sentiment to thrive; this is taken away from her, when she is forced to make moral demands on everything."" The book presents Josef Frank's intense craving for activity, which lasted more than half a century.
