This chest of drawers, which Josef Frank designed for Estrid Ericson in 1954, was for the hall in her summer house in Tyresö, hence the name “Tyresö Chest of Drawers”. Some characteristic details are the brass legs and puck-like feet.

Josef Frank grew up in Vienna and studied architecture at Technische Hochschule (the Vienna University of Technology) in 1903 – 1908. In the 1920s he designed housing estates and large residential blocks built around common courtyards in a Vienna with severe housing shortages. In 1925, he founded the Haus & Garten interior firm together with architect colleague Oskar Wlach. Svenskt Tenn hired Josef Frank in 1934 and just a few years later he and Estrid Ericson made their international breakthrough. Although he was already 50 when he left the burgeoning Nazism in Vienna for Sweden, Frank is considered one of Sweden’s most important designers. Read more

  • Care instructions

Svenskt Tenn’s furniture is made from wood that is varnished or coated. Clean with a soft cloth dampened with mild dish detergent or soapy water. Dry with a soft cloth. Do not expose the furniture to prolonged humidity or direct heat or use polish, oil or abrasive cleaners on the furniture.

At first, don’t place objects such as vases, books and coasters on the table since this can lead to changes in colour of the surface. After that, avoid allowing objects to remain too long in the same place on the table since this mightlead to darkening of the wood. In addition, avoid exposing the furniture to major changes in temperature and humidity.

Clean the brass legs and fittings with a soft cloth. For a deeper cleaning we recommend a gentle, non-abrasive brass polish. Avoid using brushes, steel wool, polishing cloths, sponges and the like since the surface of brass is sensitive to objects that can scratch. Also avoid lengthy contact with oxides that can cause permanent damage. To avoid water damage, keep surfaces dry with a soft cloth.

Contact a furniture restorer if the coating or wood gets damaged, as it can get worse if not tended to.
